DIRECTOR’S NOTE by Deanna Jent:

Welcome!

to the first season of Mustard Seed Theatre

Perhaps you have some questions?

Who are we?
An ensemble of six local theatre artists – teachers, actors, directors, writers – all interested in creating a theatrical place that cultivates dialogue about faith and social justice.

What’s our mission?
To produce engaging professional theatre that explores our relationship to God and our ethical responsibility to the world.

What makes Mustard Seed Theatre unique?

  • In addition to two fully produced shows – Remnant and Measure for Measure, we produce the Dijon Discussion Series – two staged readings of plays that explore faith journeys and social issues in unexpected ways. Each reading is followed by a discussion of the questions raised by the play.
  • We also use environmentally conscious business practices: recycled paper for our programs and mailings, fair-trade coffee, tea and chocolate for our concessions, washable/ reusable silverware, glasses and mugs.
  • Our Thursday performances are Pay What You Can or Pay With a Can, with proceeds going to local food pantries. And 10% of our ticket sales will be used to support charitable work and mission trips by Fontbonne students.
  • Our website (www.mustardseedtheatre.com) includes a link to our blog, where we hope you will join in ongoing conversation about our productions.

Why are we producing MEASURE FOR MEASURE?
With humor and drama, the intriguing characters, plot and dialogue of this play pose many complex and relevant questions that resonate beyond the Christian faith of the characters:

How do you balance justice and mercy?

What is the true nature of evil and good?

What kind of community results from an imbalance in power and resources?

We hope that you will feel the energy created by the collaborative efforts of people on both sides of the stage. Theatre exists only in this moment, created in the space between actors and audience when a story falls on open ears.

Enjoy!

Deanna Jent, Artistic Director

and Resident Artists: Gary Wayne Barker, Adam Flores, Kelley Ryan,

Michael Sullivan and Leslie Wobbe
